Not my righteousness, but His

Not how much, but Who - As Jesus Is, So Are You| Pastor Prince
All by the Spirit and not me

For this thought, Pastor Prince talks about how Christ’s gift of righteousness is what gives us access to the blessings that are ours as joint-heirs with Him.

The Lord Jesus Christ never sinned, and yet He took our sin onto His own body on the cross and we received His righteousness. It is through this divine exchange at the cross that we can be blessed today and not because of our own works. Jesus never committed any sin but He received ours, and when we accept Him, though we haven’t done any righteousness, we become righteous when we accept His gift.

22 “Who committed no sin,
Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;

1 Peter 2

A lot of the times, we think that we have to earn the blessings and promises of the righteous by living a righteous life, but Pastor Prince teaches that the blessings come, not because of our righteous acts, but because of Christ’s gift of righteousness. While we are meant to live a life that brings glory to Christ, this life does not come by right-doing but by right-being. And that right-being is ours when we accept the sacrifice and obedience of our savior on the cross.

19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Romans 5

When we receive God’s abundant provision of grace and His gift of righteousness, we are receiving His love act for us. We are accepting and acknowledging that we cannot, that Christ’s death was not in vain.

 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5

When Jesus was on earth, He showed the people that it wasn’t just about their behavior, but that God looked at the heart. While man is concerned about what they do on the outside, God looks first at your heart. And He blesses us not because of what we have done but because of Jesus Christ. All the sinners who came to Jesus received from Him before they made their lives perfect. These blessings did not come without a price though because we know that Jesus paid the price at the cross. And when we pray, we are to pray in His name.

But He was wounded[k] for our transgressions,
He was[l]bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes[m] we are healed.

Isaiah 53

I suck at living life the right way, and honestly, the believing right hasn’t been easier either. Without Him, there was no way I could ever count as righteous, there is no way I could ever pay the price. And knowing that I don’t have to pay that price because Christ has already paid it for me frees me from the fear that I will never be good enough to receive God’s blessing. And while some people seem to thrive in fear, I don’t. I am the freeze and flight kind of girl. And my Abba Father knew this and gave up His Son for me, showing me He loved me anyway. And now I get to run to Him and rest in His love and promises for me.

18 knowing that you were not redeemed with [g]corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

1 Peter 1

It is through Jesus, the Beloved Son, that my Daddy God gives me all the blessings I could ever need in life. It is in the gift of righteousness that I will reign in life.

17 For if by the one man’s [a]offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 5

So I don’t know about you but I receive His gift of righteousness and I want to be established in it. And in Him, I have faith that I have received and will keep receiving all the blessings of righteousness that He has for me.

You can find the next thought here where Pastor teaches us that resting in Him and His gift of righteousness does not mean we become lazy. It means instead that we live a spirit-led life.

Until next time-

Be blessed, and remember that you are loved and highly favor!
