So why bother to live the vine life when people in the world are succeeding without it? Or have you ever found yourself looking at your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, living life on the world’s terms and experiencing tangible success while you are left behind? Is it really important to let go and let go when you can do it on your own? In John 15 verse 8, the Lord Jesus Christ said that our Daddy God is glorified when we bear much fruit and prove ourselves to be His disciples. I can’t think of any other reason that supersedes that one, giving glory to God.
8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
In 1 Corinthians 10 verse 31, the word says that in whatever we do we should do it for the glory of God. And in Joshua 24, Joshua wrote that as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord, you choose who you will serve. But I know for some, doing things on you own has a certain level of guarantee for people, as opposed to faith. You look at the situation and in the physical, there is no way out, or no way in, unless you take certain steps. But as children of the Most-High God, we live by faith and not by sight. We are saved by grace through faith, not by our own works lest we should boast.
When we become born again and give our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, there is a change that happens where we give Him all our sins and give up our lives. In Galatians 2:20, the bible says that not I that lives but Christ through me, we die to ourselves and are raised in Him. In John 3, it is written, ‘He must increase, and I must decrease,’ there should be more of Him and less of us. In Eph 6, Paul talks about how everything we are supposed to do is as unto Christ. Whatever we are supposed to do in life as Christians should be in Christ, not by my own works and might.
1 John 4
19 We love because he first loved us.
We love because He first loved us, and we forgive as we, in Christ, are forgiven. We have health because He carried our diseases and by His stripes, we are healed. We are saved because He died for us on the cross and took our place as our sin offering. Our righteousness is not our own, but a gift from the Lord Jesus Christ. So for me, I don’t want to go it on my own, I didn’t save myself or heal myself or get myself here, and I am not going to suddenly be able to be better on my own than in Christ.
I have to confess that I not very good at this though, I am still learning and I have to believe that He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it. In fact, you could say it’s easier for me to say live the vine life because I have no level of personal success that I got on my own. It is, to a certain extent, probably easier for us who are down and have no hope in our ability, to give our all to Him and want things His way. After all, I have nothing to lose by trusting in Him, and everything to gain. And the truth is on my own I will just stay the same, I don’t see myself with any progress.
And yeah I am totally attracted to the idea of the success without sorrow that the Lord gives (Proverbs 10:22). I prefer to make any sacrifice I have to make to Him and let Him lead me into success than to have to make sacrifices for success in the world. You are going to have to sacrifice something somewhere and as Christians, we have to choose whether to do it the world’s way or through Christ. What I know is that God makes every situation to work together for our good in a way that the world will not do.
And a life flowing in the vine is not a lazy life, you are still going to have to work, but you do it through the Lord Jesus Christ, seated at His right hand and in a place of rest. In Christ the victory is already yours, success is already your, so you fight from a place of victory and not for victory. When we look at Jesus Christ, we see in the bible that He was not lazy and He went about producing results.
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
I dare say that whatever results you produce on your own will not be up to His standard. And there is no place where it says that He failed to heal, provide for, or deliver someone who came to him for help. And remember, before He even started His ministry, the Father declared that He was well pleased in Him (Mark 1:11). So when we produce fruit in Christ, whom the Father is well pleased in, and in whom we are accepted, this gives glory to God and proves us to be disciples of Christ.
The Lord in Isaiah said that He is the one who teaches us to profit and leads us in the ways we should go. And in Deuteronomy, it says He gives His people power to make wealth. This shows us that in Christ we can succeed and deciding to flow in the vine does not mean failure. In fact, in Him, you cannot fail because He cannot fail. The vine life flowing in you will bring to success all that you want to do because He promised that He would work in you both the willingness and the ability to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2: 13).
Philippians 2 vs 13
For God is the One working in you both to will and to work according to His good pleasure.
Notice that it’s for His good pleasure, so again He will give you the willingness and the ability to do produce for His sake. In Him, you will have the wisdom you need to make wise decisions and avoid bad things that might happen when you aren’t depending on His supply.
So in Christ, we have divine success that gives glory to God we are able to work from a place of rest and be guided by the one who knows all things and created all things. There are other reasons why it’s important to live the vine life.
One other reason for living the vine life is that in Him you produce quality results without stress as I mentioned earlier. So there are two things here, firstly what you produce is of a quality that you could never produce on your own. Jesus said without Him you can do nothing so there must be something special and different about the fruit you produce in Him compared to what you do on your own. He has a standard He has waiting for you that you will only reach in and through Him. Secondly, you produce these results without striving because the quality doesn’t depend on you, it depends on Christ who is producing in you as you work out your salvation that He has put in you. And we already know from John 15 that if there is something wrong or missing, the Father is the vinedresser and He will lift you up and clean you to produce much fruit. (Find here a video where Pastor Prince explains John 15 and how the Father lift you up and cleans the branch so that it can bear much fruit)
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Another reason is that if you are flowing in the vine you are flowing in His wisdom and knowledge. The Lord Himself teaches you to profit and leads you in the way you should go. This means that you are not taking any unnecessary risks that could break you instead of making you. In Him you cannot fail because He does not fail, He knows all things and is above all things. He calls forth things that did not exist as though they did so if He is leading you in a certain direction, He knows what he is doing. He said in His word that He knows the plans He has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.
Last but certainly not least, it is important to remember that fruit produced in the vine is not just in terms of productivity and financial prosperity. In 3 John verse two, there is mention of soul-prosperity, health prosperity, and financial prosperity. I believe that it is in the vine life that all these manifest in your life. In the vine, you will bear much fruit in your relationships with your family and friend, or at work. The vine life provides for every area of your life including your health. We know Jesus Christ is healthy and as He is so are we in this world. As the vine life flows in you, His health and wholeness flow in you bringing life to your mortal body. Pastor Prince talks about how it is important to Be conscious of you position in Christ in this devotional, where talks about living the vine life.
3 John 2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
So there you have it, a number of reasons why you should consider flowing in the vine, or why you should keep at it if it’s been a struggle. Flowing in Christ enables us to bear much fruit, Christ fruit that gives glory to God and establishes us as His disciples. It helps us succeed in every area of our lives including our souls, our relationships and our health. The vine life, when it flows in you brings life to your body, causing you to have divine health as Christ does. It helps you to walk in wisdom and leads you in the way you should go. When you flow in the vine, you don’t have to sacrifice family life to get money or sacrifice you job or passion for your family. He will lead you and give you the wisdom to be able to take care of both, or He can remove you from that situation to a situation where it works together for your good.
When you walk in the vine, you are conscious of His love and His presence in your life. I am sure there are other reasons that I didn’t mention so comment down below in the comment section and share with me and others what you know, and/or have experienced in the vine life.
